Ryanair to Scrap Paper Boarding Passes on Nov. 3, Requiring App Check-In

Airport staff will reissue a pass at no charge for checked-in travellers who lose access to their phones.

Overview

  • Passengers must show a mobile boarding pass in the myRyanair app to board any flight once the policy begins.
  • Printed passes remain required at airports in Morocco, most of Turkey except Dalaman, and at Tirana in Albania due to local rules.
  • If a phone is lost or the battery dies, checked-in travellers can obtain a free paper reprint at the airport, and gate staff can verify boarding via sequence numbers.
  • The app adds real-time flight updates, direct operations alerts during disruption, stored travel documents, a Travel Assistant, and an Order to Seat service.
  • Ryanair cites 85–90% smartphone usage among passengers, projects savings of over 300 tonnes of paper per year, and has signalled plans to remove most airport check-in desks.
