Ryanair Sets 3 November Switch to App-Only Boarding Passes

Passengers must check in online beforehand to receive free help if their phone or battery fails.

Overview

  • From 3 November 2025, Ryanair will no longer accept passenger‑printed boarding passes and will require boarding passes in the myRyanair app.
  • Michael O’Leary says staff will reissue a paper pass at the airport at no charge if a traveler has checked in online but loses access to their phone, and gate staff can verify sequence numbers if a battery dies.
  • Ryanair says the boarding pass reissue fee shown as £20 today will drop to zero on 3 November, while existing airport check‑in penalties for not checking in online remain up to £55 (£30 from Spain).
  • National rules still apply: Morocco continues to require printed boarding passes, and Ryanair says Albania will move to digital acceptance from March.
  • The airline cites real‑time disruption updates and alternative travel options via the app and estimates saving about 300 tonnes of paper annually, while acknowledging potential teething problems and advising support for passengers less comfortable with smartphones.
