Ryanair Raises Free Hand Luggage Allowance to 40×20×30 cm

The airline is deploying revised measuring frames over the coming weeks to enforce its new 24-liter cabin bag rule under a court-granted suspension of a Spanish consumer-protection fine.

Overview

  • Starting August 2025, Ryanair has raised its free cabin bag dimensions from 40×20×25 cm to 40×20×30 cm, increasing capacity from 20 liters to 24 liters.
  • The revised allowance exceeds the EU Council’s upcoming 40×30×15 cm minimum cabin baggage standard in terms of overall volume.
  • Airports across Ryanair’s network will replace and recalibrate luggage-measuring frames over the next weeks to reflect the new policy.
  • Bags that exceed the expanded dimensions will still incur additional boarding fees under the airline’s maintained surcharge structure.
  • Ryanair is appealing a penalty imposed by Spain’s Ministry of Consumption and currently benefits from a Madrid High Court precautionary measure allowing continued surcharges.
