Ryanair Confirms Digital-Only Boarding Passes From 12 November, With Limited Exceptions

The airline says app-based passes will cut paper waste and speed boarding as MPs question the impact on passengers without smartphones.

Overview

  • From 12 November, boarding passes will be issued in the myRyanair app and airport desks will stop routine printing.
  • Gate staff can print a pass free of charge only for passengers who have already checked in, for situations such as a lost or unpowered phone.
  • Mobile passes are not accepted in Turkey, Morocco and on TiranaUK departures, so travellers on those routes must check in online and use a printed pass supplied at the airport or printed in advance.
  • Passengers who fail to check in online may face an airport check-in fee, even as the previous £55 desk printing option is withdrawn.
  • Ministers and consumer groups have raised Consumer Rights Act concerns over access for non-smartphone users, while Ryanair cites high smartphone adoption and claims more than 300 tonnes of paper will be saved annually.
