Overview

  • New York traded for McMahon on Friday, sending right-hander Josh Grosz and left-hander Griffin Herring to Colorado to shore up a third-base position weakened by Oswaldo Cabrera’s injury and limited production from Oswald Peraza and Jorbit Vivas.
  • In his debut on Saturday, McMahon went 1-for-3 with a walk and made a diving backhand stop at third base despite New York’s 9-4 loss to the Phillies.
  • On Sunday, he ripped a game-tying, two-run double in the second inning and made another slick defensive play as the Yankees rallied for a 4-3 win to end a three-game skid.
  • McMahon chose jersey No. 19 to honor his father’s high-school number and former Rockies teammate Charlie Blackmon, and he is under contract through 2027.
  • The victory improved the Yankees to 57-48 and pulled them within 5½ games of the AL East-leading Blue Jays.
