Overview
- The FBS Oversight Committee recommended a 10-day portal from Jan. 2–11 and eliminating the spring window, pending Administrative Committee approval.
- Day called the plan “not a good idea,” arguing CFP teams would have to make roster and recruiting decisions during postseason preparation, and he said most Big Ten coaches agree.
- AFCA executive director Craig Bohl has said FBS head coaches he met with supported a Jan. 2 single window as a way to reduce December’s overlap of coaching changes, bowls and recruiting.
- The window would open the day after the CFP quarterfinals and close Jan. 11, and the committee also proposed making December a recruiting dead period with evaluations shifted into January.
- Ohio State saw nine scholarship players enter the portal during last season’s Playoff run, and AD Ross Bjork has floated a May window to better align with academic and fiscal calendars.
