Overview

  • Rx Kids provides pregnant women with $1,500 before delivery and $500 per month for up to a year, without income checks or spending conditions.
  • Enrollment has surged since the 2024 launch, reaching nearly 100% participation among eligible mothers in Flint.
  • Families use the cash for essentials like diapers, utilities and childcare, enabling some to return to work and others to extend parental leave.
  • A bipartisan state Senate bill introduced in February to fund statewide expansion remains stalled as Michigan’s Legislature grapples with a divided agenda.
  • By fall, the program is set to extend beyond Flint, Pontiac, Kalamazoo and Upper Peninsula counties into central Michigan and Detroit-area suburbs.
