Overview

  • Rust (Baden-Württemberg) ranks first with about 198.3 guests per resident in 2024, reflecting roughly 992,010 arrivals and a 6.2% increase since 2022.
  • Across more than 2,000 municipalities, the guests-to-residents ratio rose in roughly three quarters of places surveyed.
  • Bavaria’s tourism density reached 3.04 guests per resident for the first time, with Oberding at about 66.8 and Oberstdorf in the top ten as Oberammergau posted the steepest drop with around seven fewer guests per resident.
  • Local attractions and infrastructure drive hotspots, led by Europa-Park in Rust and by airport-proximate hotels and Therme Erding drawing visitors to Oberding.
  • Cities rebounded as well, with Munich reporting about ten million visitors in 2024, up roughly 34% from 2022, even as average stays shortened across Bavaria.
