Russia’s Weekly Inflation Rises to 0.2% for Dec. 16–22, Rosstat Says

The uptick reflects sharp produce gains led by cucumbers, with smaller increases across goods and services.

  • Price growth accelerated to 0.2% for the week of December 16–22 from 0.05% the previous week.
  • Since the start of December prices are up 0.31%, year to date they are up 5.58%, and the annual rate stood at 5.66% as of December 22.
  • Fruit and vegetables rose 2.3% on average, including cucumbers +9.3%, potatoes +1.7%, tomatoes +1.6%, onions +1.5%, carrots +1.1%, cabbage +1.0% and apples +0.9%.
  • Selected foods and services climbed, with macaroni +0.5%; frozen fish, margarine and vermicelli +0.4%; beef, baby meat preserves, sunflower oil, eggs, breads and cookies +0.3%; hotel stays up to +1.4% and housing fees +0.8%.
  • Non‑food items saw domestic new cars +1.5% and smartphones +1.1%; diesel fuel rose 0.1% while gasoline fell 0.1%, and several staples declined including buckwheat −0.5%, sugar −0.4%, and rice −0.2%.
