Russia’s Weekly Inflation Accelerates to 0.2% for Dec. 16–22

Rosstat cites sharp produce gains and targeted increases in goods and services that outweighed declines in several staples and motor gasoline.

  • The weekly reading followed 0.05% the previous week, bringing December-to-date inflation to 0.31%.
  • Year-to-date consumer prices are up 5.58%, with a 12‑month estimate of 5.66% as of December 22.
  • Fruit and vegetables rose 2.3% week over week, led by cucumbers (+9.3%), potatoes (+1.7%) and tomatoes (+1.6%).
  • Prices fell for several basics, including buckwheat (-0.5%), sugar (-0.4%), rice (-0.2%), as well as pork and boiled sausages (-0.1%).
  • Selective increases were recorded for nonfood and services, including domestic new cars (+1.5%), smartphones (+1.1%), hotel stays (up to +1.4%) and housing fees (+0.8%), while diesel edged up 0.1% and gasoline dipped 0.1%.
