Russia’s Shoigu Meets Kim Jong Un to Bolster Military Alliance

Sergei Shoigu, Russia’s Security Council secretary, arrived in Pyongyang to meet Kim Jong Un and other top officials, continuing efforts to expand military cooperation.
North Korea has reportedly sent thousands of troops and weapons to support Russia’s war in Ukraine, including artillery and ballistic missiles.
In exchange for its support, North Korea is believed to be receiving military technology, economic aid, and other assistance from Russia.
The two nations signed a mutual defense treaty in June 2024, committing to aid each other in case of attack, formalizing their strategic partnership.
Shoigu’s visit coincides with North Korea’s missile tests and tensions over -South Korean military drills, amid speculation about a potential future visit by Kim to Russia.
