Russia's Olympic Committee Appeal Rejected by Court of Arbitration for Sport

The rejection upholds the International Olympic Committee's ban on Russia for recognizing annexed Ukrainian regions as their own Olympic councils.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport dismissed Russia's appeal against the International Olympic Committee's suspension, which was imposed for recognizing regional organizations from territories annexed from Ukraine.
The International Olympic Committee had banned the Russian Olympic Committee in October 2023 for violating the Olympic Charter by incorporating regions of Ukraine as members.
Russia's suspension from the Olympic movement means it will not receive funding and cannot be associated with the Olympics, but does not impact Russian athletes' participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Russian and Belarusian athletes, banned in 2022 following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, were allowed in 2023 to compete as individuals without national symbols at international events.
The Russian Olympic Committee can appeal the decision to the Swiss supreme court.
