Russia's Justice Ministry Adds Alekhin, Rykovtseva, Vostrikov and Avtozak-LIVE to 'Foreign Agents' List

The move extends state enforcement tools against independent reporting plus protest support.

Overview

  • The updated registry, posted on September 19, also names historian Sergey Erlich alongside the four principal additions.
  • Roman Alekhin, a pro-government war blogger and former adviser in the Kursk region, previously signed a Defense Ministry contract with the Akhmat unit before resigning in March.
  • Telegram channels Shot and Mash reported suspicions of Alekhin misusing fundraising for medicines, videos circulated of financial discussions, and he filed lawsuits against outlets that carried the claims.
  • Ivan Vostrikov, who led Alexei Navalny’s Tyumen headquarters, left Russia after the 2021 crackdown and has highlighted investigations into Governor Alexander Moor’s assets and procurement practices.
  • Elena Rykovtseva has worked with Radio Liberty since 2001 and served as deputy editor in Moscow until the outlet was deemed undesirable, while Avtozak-LIVE, launched in 2019, documents protests and assists detainees and now faces the legal burdens that accompany the label.
