Russian Strikes Damage Kyiv Energy Network and Dnipro Bridge

Cutting power, heating and water for millions, the strikes have prompted emergency imports from Germany and Spain and increased pressure on Kyiv's air defences.

Overview

  • The attacks overnight Nov. 6–7 damaged power plants, substations and a major Dnipro bridge in and around Kyiv, leaving large parts of the city with electricity, district heating and water outages.
  • Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko reported five people wounded and said crews are assessing and repairing bridge and grid damage while large repairs and temporary measures are under way.
  • President Volodymyr Zelenskyy blamed gaps in municipal preparedness for some consequences and publicly clashed with Klitschko over responsibility for the heating season preparations.
  • Ukraine said its air defences shot down multiple ballistic rockets and most attacking drones, and the government has secured agreements to import generators, cables and equipment from Germany and Spain.
  • The strikes follow weeks of intensified attacks on civilian energy infrastructure and raise winter humanitarian risks for millions across other cities and regions while Ukraine presses foreign partners for more missile-defence support.
