Svetlana Dali, a 57-year-old Russian national and U.S. permanent resident, was arrested in Buffalo, New York, while attempting to flee to Canada on a Greyhound bus after removing her GPS ankle monitor.
Dali was previously charged with stowing away on a Delta flight from New York to Paris on November 26 by bypassing TSA security and blending in with an airline crew to board the plane without a ticket or passport.
French authorities detained her upon arrival in Paris, and she was returned to the U.S., where she was released under strict conditions, including wearing an ankle monitor and staying in Philadelphia.
Authorities allege Dali violated her release conditions by cutting off her monitor and fleeing Philadelphia, prompting an arrest warrant and her subsequent capture near the Canadian border.
Dali faces charges of bail jumping and being a stowaway, with potential penalties of up to five years in prison for each charge, and is scheduled to appear in federal court in Buffalo before being transferred to Brooklyn.
