Overview

  • On June 17, Russian forces unleashed a massive barrage of more than 440 drones and 32 missiles, striking at least 27 locations in Kyiv and six other Ukrainian cities and flattening a nine-storey residential building in the Solomianskyi district.
  • Emergency crews deployed over 400 State Emergency Service personnel, heavy machinery and canine units in a 39-hour operation that recovered 28 bodies, rescued two people trapped under the rubble and evacuated over 50 residents.
  • More than 140 people were injured in the assault, which destroyed 35 apartments, blew out windows and doors across a wide radius and triggered fires that have since been extinguished.
  • The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv condemned the strike as a senseless act that undermines President Trump’s call to end the war, while EU and G7 leaders weigh additional sanctions to increase pressure on Moscow.
  • President Zelenskyy visited the collapse site to pay tribute to the victims and urged Ukraine’s partners to intensify diplomatic and economic measures as ceasefire talks remain stalled.
