Russian Cyberattack Compromises Millions of Americans’ Data, Federal Agencies

Millions of Americans across Louisiana and Oregon had their personal information stolen when hackers targeted government agencies and organizations around the world.
The cyberattack exploited vulnerabilities in commonly used software called MOVEit, affecting hundreds of victims including multiple US federal agencies, major UK corporations, and universities.
The Russian ransomware group CL0P claimed responsibility for the attack and threatened to publish stolen data from victims who don’t pay a ransom.
The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency is investigating the scope of the hacks and providing support to federal agencies who experienced intrusions affecting their MOVEit software.
Progress Software, the developer of MOVEit, warned customers of a new critical flaw in the software that could allow malicious actors to gain control of affected systems.
