Russian Airstrikes on Crowded Syrian Market Kill at Least 11

  • Russian fighter jets launched airstrikes on a vegetable market and surrounding areas in northwestern Syria, killing at least 11 people and wounding 30 others.
  • The airstrikes targeted the opposition-held town of Jisr al-Shughur, located in Syria's last rebel stronghold.
  • The attacks were reportedly in retaliation for recent attacks on army outposts blamed on jihadist groups active in the region.
  • Rescue workers rushed victims to local hospitals in trucks normally used to transport produce.
  • The region is dominated by Hayat Tahrir al Sham but also has a strong presence of Turkish-backed opposition groups.
