Russia Strikes Ukraine’s Energy and Gas Network With Drones and Missiles, Forcing Blackouts

Overview

  • Ukraine’s Energy Ministry reported more than 450 attack drones and 45 missiles aimed at critical infrastructure overnight on November 7–8.
  • Blackouts and emergency shutdowns were introduced across Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa and Kirovohrad oblasts.
  • Gas facilities, including assets of Naftogaz Group, sustained multiple hits that damaged production equipment.
  • Regional authorities said strikes across the Dnipropetrovsk region damaged homes, infrastructure and power lines, and air defenses shot down seven UAVs.
  • A nighttime strike on a high-rise in Dnipro killed three people and injured 12, including two children, with several apartments destroyed.
