Russia Strike Destroys Datagroup's Kyiv Data Centre

The confirmed loss of the facility removes a major telecom hub, increasing the risk of wider outages for Ukrainian businesses and government services.

Overview

  • Datagroup, which said Monday that a ballistic missile strike on the night of October 18–19 rendered its Kyiv data centre completely inoperable, reported the equipment and infrastructure cannot be restored.
  • The company said no employees were injured and that client data was preserved while services continue to run from backup sites outside the destroyed facility.
  • The Russian Defense Ministry claimed the attack also hit a nearby logistics site it called a 'Fire Point' and said the strikes targeted facilities linked to drone and missile-component production, a claim reported by state media.
  • The overnight strikes on Kyiv caused civilian harm elsewhere in the city, with local reports saying one person was killed and eight were injured during the same attack wave.
  • This incident follows earlier damage to the same Datagroup centre on September 25 and fits a wider pattern of reciprocal strikes on digital and logistics infrastructure that risk longer-term disruptions to connectivity and public services.
