Russia Steps Up Anti-Corruption Drive With Detentions, Indictments and Major Asset Seizures

Fresh arrests, indictments, seizures signal a coordinated push by prosecutors and investigators nationwide.

  • Former Ivanovo mayor and ex–regional deputy chair Aleksandr Shabotinsky was detained on suspicion of abuse of office tied to more than 30 contracts worth over 500 million rubles from 2020 to 2024, with a custody ruling pending.
  • Investigators completed the case against Vladimir region deputy Nikolay Malyshev, sending 18 counts including forced labor, kidnapping and arson to court, with alleged damages of about 7 million rubles and several of his vehicles under arrest.
