Russia Says Air Defenses Downed 75 Ukrainian Drones Overnight

The defense ministry also reported strikes on Ukrainian units in Kherson and large-scale demining across recaptured territory.

  • Between 23:00 on January 20 and 07:00 on January 21, 75 fixed-wing drones were intercepted, including 45 over Krasnodar Krai, nine over Oryol, seven over the Black Sea, three each over Rostov and Crimea, two each over Astrakhan, Bryansk and Kursk, and one over Voronezh and the Sea of Azov, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
  • In earlier windows on January 20, the ministry reported 60 drones downed from 16:00–20:00 and 53 from 20:00–23:00 over Crimea, Krasnodar Krai, the Azov and Black Seas and multiple Russian regions, indicating sustained counter‑UAV activity.
  • Regional officials reported fires and evacuations after UAV incidents in Adygea and Krasnodar Krai, with 15 cars burned, additional vehicles damaged and a refinery blaze promptly contained, with no casualties noted.
  • Russian forces from the Dnepr grouping said FPV‑drone operators destroyed a Ukrainian UAV control post and a vehicle with personnel, and a D‑30 howitzer detachment hit a temporary deployment site on the right bank of the Dnipro in Kherson region.
  • The Defense Ministry said engineer troops have cleared more than 250,000 hectares in the DNR, LNR, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Kursk, Bryansk and Belgorod regions and destroyed over 4.5 million explosive items.
