Russia Says Air Defenses Downed 251 Ukrainian Drones Overnight Across Multiple Regions

Regional officials report injuries, damage and outages, with alerts later lifted in several cities.

Overview

  • The Russian Defense Ministry reported intercepting 251 UAVs overnight across Crimea, Kursk, Belgorod, Nizhny Novgorod, Voronezh and other areas, including one drone headed toward Moscow.
  • Belgorod authorities said 197 drones targeted 14 municipalities, leaving about 40,000 residents without electricity and damaging homes and vehicles; a 10-year-old boy and other civilians were reported injured.
  • Regional updates cited additional injuries and damage: two people were hurt at the Tuapse refinery in Krasnodar Krai after debris fell and ignited a guard post, and one person was injured in Nizhny Novgorod after an attack over Dzerzhinsk.
  • Drone alerts were declared overnight in cities and regions including Voronezh, Lipetsk and Novorossiysk, then later canceled in Novorossiysk and Stavropol Krai; Belgorod lifted a more than 25-hour alert on Monday.
  • Russian military statements highlighted parallel offensive drone operations near Krasnoarmeysk and the creation of specialized 'night hunter' units to counter large UAVs, with all claims attributed to Russian authorities.
