Russia Moves to Extend Two-Subject OGE Pilot to 2029, Add More Regions

The proposal sets a special procedure for ninth‑grade certification that also governs admissions in participating regions.

Overview

  • The government submitted a bill to the State Duma to prolong the OGE two‑subject experiment through 2029.
  • The draft expands participation to Tatarstan, Moscow, Rostov, Tver and Tyumen regions, alongside Moscow, St. Petersburg and Lipetsk already in the pilot.
  • The experiment permits ninth‑graders in participating regions to take the OGE in only two subjects under a defined special procedure.
  • The Education Ministry previously confirmed the pilot’s continuation in the 2025/2026 school year for Moscow, St. Petersburg and Lipetsk.
  • Rosobrnadzor outlined provisional 2026 OGE dates: June 2 (math), June 6 (informatics and foreign languages), June 9 (Russian), with additional sessions on June 5, 16 and 19; the bill awaits parliamentary review and would take effect after publication if passed.
