Russia Marks First Day of the Artist With Awards and Cultural Policy Pledges

Officials used the debut observance to spotlight cultural honors, new theatre funding targets, youth outreach initiatives and wartime support figures.

  • The National Centre “Russia” in Moscow hosted a state awards ceremony where Sergey Kirienko and Tatyana Golikova presented honors, including People’s Artist titles to Alexander Oleshko, Anna Mikhalkova and Maxim Averin.
  • President Vladimir Putin sent a message, read by Kirienko, praising artists who support fighters during the Special Military Operation and recalling performers’ service during the Great Patriotic War.
  • Golikova announced that 113 theatres will be modernized by 2030 under the federal project Family Values and Cultural Infrastructure, with 30 theatres to receive annual equipment support.
  • Kirienko said about 41,000 school theatres operate across Russia, and the Movement of the First reported tens of thousands of participants in observances featuring rehearsals, concerts and cultural activities.
  • Kirienko reported that more than 2,000 performers have delivered over 25,000 concerts and appearances at the front and in hospitals for participants in the Special Military Operation.
