Overview
- Russian forces unleashed nearly 400 drones and 18 missiles in a nearly 10-hour strike on Kyiv that killed two people and wounded more than 20 others.
- Ukraine’s air defences intercepted all but a few dozen of the incoming drones, though residential districts across the city suffered widespread damage.
- President Volodymyr Zelensky characterized the attack as a clear escalation of terror by Russia and urged partners to speed up deliveries of interceptor drones and air defence systems.
- At the Rome conference, allies committed fresh military aid, including resumed US shipments of artillery shells and mobile rocket artillery and Germany and Norway financing three Patriot surface-to-air batteries.
- Western partners also unveiled the European Flagship Fund for Ukraine’s reconstruction and agreed to establish a UK-France “coalition of the willing” headquarters in Paris to coordinate long-term security support.
