Russia Launches Over 300 Drones and 30 Missiles in Overnight Assault, One Killed in Odesa

Ukraine credited its air defences with shooting down hundreds of kamikaze drones after frontline units repelled dozens of assaults, with EU leaders approving fresh sanctions targeting Russia’s energy sector.

Overview

  • Russia unleashed more than 300 strike drones and over 30 missiles overnight against multiple Ukrainian regions, including Odesa, Pavlohrad, Kharkiv and Donetsk.
  • Moscow’s air defences said they intercepted 87 Ukrainian drones across central, western and southern Russia, with 13 more destroyed near Moscow.
  • In Odesa, a residential high-rise fire killed one civilian and injured six, and in Pavlohrad the heaviest bombardment to date damaged a fire station, industrial sites and a five-storey apartment block.
  • Shelling and drone strikes in Kharkiv region hit 10 settlements, damaging utilities and homes, while attacks on Rodynske and Kostiantynivka in Donetsk prompted war-crimes probes after deaths and injuries.
  • The European Union approved its 18th sanctions package targeting Russia’s oil and energy sector to further restrict funding for the Kremlin’s war effort.
