Russia Launches 635 Drones and 38 Missiles at Ukraine, Cutting Power and Killing Three

Ukraine says the winter power grid was the target to gain negotiating leverage in U.S.-brokered talks.

Overview

  • Ukraine’s Air Force tracked 673 aerial threats and reported intercepting 587 drones and 34 cruise missiles, with strikes and debris recorded in 21 locations.
  • Authorities reported at least three civilian deaths, including a four-year-old, as emergency blackouts hit multiple regions and nuclear plants reduced output pending grid repairs.
  • Damage was reported to energy, port, transport, industrial and residential sites, including in Odesa, with western regions such as Rivne, Ternopil and Khmelnytskyi heavily affected.
  • Poland deployed national and allied aircraft to protect its airspace as the attack pushed close to NATO’s eastern flank.
  • Ukrainian officials said their forces struck targets inside Russia, including an oil terminal, a pipeline, warplanes at Lipetsk, ships in the Krasnodar region and a submarine at Novorossiysk.
