Russia Launches 165-Drone Night Attack, Ground Pressure Intensifies Near Huliaipole

Kyiv says daily partner support for air defense, drone interceptors, energy repairs is vital.

Overview

  • Ukrainian authorities reported about 165 strike drones, roughly 100 Shahed-type, plus nine ballistic/S-300 missiles were launched overnight, with air defenses downing 137 drones.
  • A drone hit a private medical facility in Kyiv’s Obolon district, killing one patient and injuring four people, and strikes on energy sites caused a full blackout in Slavutych and outages in Donetsk, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions.
  • The General Staff recorded 229 combat clashes on Jan. 4 and said the heaviest assaults into the morning were around Huliaipole (65) and Pokrovsk (54), with 80 engagements logged by 16:00 on Jan. 5.
  • Ukrainian units said Russian forces are trying to bypass defenses in the Pokrovsk agglomeration via Hryshyne and Rodynske, conducting repeated night assaults and taking reported losses on that axis.
  • The 7th Air Assault Corps reported heightened enemy activity near the Siverskyi Donets, including infiltration attempts around Dronivka and efforts to ferry troops across the river to secure the shoreline.
