Russia Launches 12-Hour Drone and Missile Barrage on Ukraine, Killing Four in Kyiv

Allied air forces heightened readiness following the overnight assault.

  • Ukraine’s air force reported 595 drones and decoys and 48 missiles were launched, with defenses downing or jamming 566 drones and 45 missiles.
  • Authorities said at least four people were killed in Kyiv, including a 12-year-old girl, and dozens were wounded across Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Sumy, Cherkasy and Mykolaiv.
  • Residential buildings, a cardiology center and a kindergarten were among sites damaged as Kyiv sustained the heaviest strikes during the multi-hour attack.
  • Poland scrambled fighter jets and placed ground-based air defenses on high alert, with temporary airspace restrictions near Lublin and Rzeszów as NATO increased regional surveillance.
  • At the UN, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned of a “decisive response” to any aggression, while President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged tougher sanctions and highlighted recent Patriot air-defense deliveries from Israel.
