Overview
- Grades 5–7 and 10–11 are slated to receive the new literature and Russian language textbooks from 1 September 2027, with grades 1–4 and 8–9 targeted for 1 September 2028.
- Every grade will include a dedicated Great Patriotic War section taught annually in late April ahead of May commemorations.
- Each textbook will feature a 'Literature of the peoples of Russia' section, starting with tales and legends for younger students and highlighting at least one notable author per grade.
- The 'Foreign literature' segment will be retitled 'Foreign literature in Russian translations' with notes on translators such as Korney Chukovsky, Samuil Marshak, and Boris Pasternak.
- Officials emphasize no revolutionary overhaul, offering more choice of works—including options across Ostrovsky and Dostoevsky—and reinstating titles such as Bulgakov’s The White Guard.
