Overview
- The Foreign Ministry announced on October 31 that it expanded travel bans on personnel from EU institutions, member states and several other European countries in response to the EU’s latest sanctions round.
- Officials said the updated list targets security figures and employees of state bodies and companies that provide military support to Ukraine, undermine Russia’s territorial integrity or impede the movement of Russian vessels and cargoes.
- Those described as pursuing Russian officials, advocating an international tribunal or the confiscation and use of Russian state assets were also added alongside selected civil society figures, academics, MEPs and national lawmakers.
- Russia did not disclose the names or the number of individuals affected by the new entry prohibitions.
- TASS notes this is the 11th retaliatory announcement since 2022 and follows the EU’s October 23 adoption of its 19th package, which includes phased curbs on Russian LNG imports and additional sanctions on shadow-fleet tankers.
