Russia Becomes China’s Leading Pipeline Gas Supplier With $7.29 Billion in Jan–Sep, Up 19% YoY

  • Updated Oct. 20 figures from China’s General Administration of Customs show Russian pipeline gas exports to China totaled $7.29 billion in January–September, an 18.9% year-on-year increase.
  • September deliveries from Russia were valued at $802.2 million, $2.4 million higher than in August.
  • Turkmenistan’s supplies to China fell 12.7% to $6.46 billion over the nine-month period after years as the dominant pipeline source.
  • Other January–September suppliers were Myanmar at $1.18 billion, Kazakhstan at more than $854.7 million, and Uzbekistan at about $629.8 million.
  • For 2024 as a whole, China imported $21.1 billion of pipeline gas, up 8.6% from 2023, with Russian deliveries rising 25% to $8.03 billion.
