Overview

  • Russian Railways confirmed that the twice-monthly direct service between Moscow and Pyongyang will resume on June 17.
  • The one-way trip spans more than 10,000 kilometers and takes eight days, making it the longest direct rail journey globally.
  • A North Korean passenger car will be attached to the regular Moscow-Vladivostok train before being transferred for the final leg to Pyongyang.
  • Passenger traffic on the line has been suspended since February 2020 under Covid-19 restrictions.
  • The resumption follows a 2024 strategic partnership treaty and comes as North Korea has sent over 10,000 troops and weapons to support Russia in its Ukraine campaign.
