Russell Brand Accused of Sexual Assault on Set of 2011 Film 'Arthur', Faces New Lawsuit
Unnamed woman files lawsuit in New York Supreme Court alleging Brand publicly exposed himself and assaulted her on movie set, with case also involving Warner Bros. and other production companies; this follows previous allegations of sexual assault against the actor.
- Russell Brand, the 48-year-old actor, is facing a new sexual assault allegation made by an anonymous woman who filed a civil lawsuit in the Supreme Court of New York. This woman, identified as Jane Doe, worked as a movie extra during the production of Brand's 2011 romantic comedy 'Arthur'.
- Jane Doe alleged that Brand publicly exposed himself in the presence of the cast, crew and employees of Warner Bros. and other production companies. She claimed that Brand appeared intoxicated and later sexually assaulted her in a bathroom, while a crew member guarded the door.
- After the alleged assault, Jane Doe stated that she was not hired again for the following two days of filming and was only paid for one day of work. The event has caused her extreme embarrassment, shame, fear, and difficulties in trusting others. She continues to work as an actor and fears professional backlash if her name is associated with a lawsuit against a celebrity.
- In addition to suing Brand, the defendants listed in the lawsuit include Warner Bros., the studio that developed and distributed the movie and other production companies. However, the affidavits did not include specific claims against any of these named defendants except for Brand.
- This new allegation follows previous accusations of sexual assault against Brand involving four women that came to light in September. One woman alleges she was sexually assaulted by Brand during a relationship when she was 16, another that she was raped by him in Los Angeles in 2012. Brand has denied all allegations stating his relationships were 'always consensual'.
