• CHP said occupants of two cars exchanged gunfire on eastbound Highway 24 near the Highway 13 connection at around 4 p.m.
• Bullets struck multiple vehicles, including a pickup that pulled over, while others that may have been hit continued driving.
• One involved vehicle collided with another near the Ygnacio Valley Road exit in Walnut Creek and then crashed into the center divide.
• The driver of that vehicle was taken into custody, and there was no immediate word on other suspects or possible injuries.
