Overview
- The Department for Transport recorded 1,602 deaths in 2024, with 29,467 killed or seriously injured and 128,272 total casualties, all slightly lower than in 2023.
- Sixty percent of fatalities occurred on rural roads (956 deaths), showing the greatest concentration of harm away from major urban areas.
- Lincolnshire had the highest death toll with 53 fatalities, while Kent recorded the most casualties of all severities (3,821) and the most people seriously hurt or killed (921).
- Car occupants accounted for the largest share of deaths (692), while motorcyclist fatalities rose 8% and pedestrian deaths increased by 1%.
