Rupert Murdoch Deposed in Smartmatic's $2.7 Billion Defamation Suit Against Fox News

This marks the second deposition for Murdoch this year in a defamation lawsuit related to the 2020 U.S. election, following a $787.5 million settlement with Dominion Voting Systems.

Rupert Murdoch, former chairman of Fox Corporation, is being deposed in the ongoing $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit by voting technology company Smartmatic against Fox News.
The lawsuit alleges that Fox News knowingly spread false claims about Smartmatic's involvement in election fraud during the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
This is the second time this year that Murdoch has been deposed in a defamation lawsuit related to the 2020 election; earlier, Fox paid $787.5 million to settle a similar lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems.
During his deposition in the Dominion case, Murdoch admitted that some Fox News hosts endorsed false narratives about the election being stolen from then-President Donald Trump.
Murdoch stepped down as chairman of Fox and News Corp earlier this month, passing control to his son Lachlan Murdoch.
