RuneScape Opens Player Vote to Remove Treasure Hunter Microtransactions

Jagex seeks a player mandate to reverse microtransactions it says have undermined RuneScape's integrity.

Overview

  • The two-week poll runs through November 12 and requires 100,000 yes votes from logged-in RuneScape accounts to trigger removal.
  • More than 77,000 votes were recorded within the first day, signaling rapid early participation.
  • If approved, Jagex will delete Treasure Hunter and roughly 220–225 gameplay-benefiting items, including XP Lamps, Proteans, Portables and Dummies.
  • Bonus XP with per-skill caps and cosmetics would remain purchasable, and owners of affected items would get an amnesty period to use them.
  • Jagex pledges a year-long Integrity Roadmap to rebalance progression and address UI, onboarding, dailyscape and combat, with further details planned alongside the content roadmap in January.
