Overview

  • Nathan Owen, 32, of Prestatyn, North Wales, has been charged with dangerous driving, causing a public nuisance and two counts of fraud by false representation.
  • The charges relate to a March 6, 2024, episode in which Owen called 999 reporting brake failure as his £80,000 Jaguar I-Pace raced uncontrollably on the M58, M57 and M62.
  • Road policing units from both forces shadowed the vehicle at speeds up to 100 mph for 35 minutes before boxing it in to bring it safely to a halt.
  • Owen asserts that an electrical fault caused the braking system to fail, trapping him inside and leaving him fearing he could die or kill someone else.
  • The case has added momentum to ongoing scrutiny of electric-vehicle braking reliability and manufacturer responsibility.
