Overview

  • Traffic came to a halt around 1:30 pm on Saturday and vehicles were diverted via Hansbhugra Marg, with the span shut for about two hours before reopening.
  • MMRDA began repairs immediately and imposed a Rs 50 lakh penalty on the contractor and Rs 1 lakh on the project management consultant.
  • Officials attribute the surface peeling and rumble-strip displacement to moisture in the early monsoon and installation over freshly laid asphalt during heavy rain.
  • Rumble strips have been reinstated temporarily with warning signage and inspections, and permanent fixes are planned after a 3–5 day dry spell with daily monitoring in place.
  • The final cable-stayed leg opened on August 14 linking Kurla to the Western Express Highway, with reported costs rising from an initial Rs 450 crore estimate to about Rs 1,000 crore.
