Ruislip Mother With Lobular Breast Cancer Awaits Second Mastectomy

A new five-year Breast Cancer Now programme targets lobular disease with £1 million in first-year funding.

Overview

  • Vicki Poole, 45, first felt a sharp breast pain during yoga in December 2021 and was diagnosed with lobular breast cancer in February 2022.
  • Imaging showed a 10cm by 4cm by 6cm tumour and two suspicious lymph nodes, while a full-body CT scan found no spread.
  • She had a right mastectomy in April 2022, completed chemotherapy by September 2022, and later received radiotherapy and hormone therapy.
  • Chemotherapy triggered a heart arrhythmia that required hospital care, and she underwent heart surgery in November 2023 with subsequent stabilization.
  • After bleeding from her left nipple in July 2024, tests found abnormal cells but no cancer, and she has chosen a left mastectomy on medical advice and is awaiting a surgery date.
