Rudolf Horn, Designer Who Shaped GDR Living, Dies at 96

His modular furniture helped define modern domestic life in East Germany, with pieces still prized today.

  • From 1968 to 1996 he taught at Burg Giebichenstein, where the rector remembered him as a formative teacher who shaped furniture and interior design over decades.
  • In the 1960s he co-developed the MDW modular furniture program with Eberhard Wüstner, first shown at the 1967 Leipzig Spring Fair and still sought by collectors.
