Rubio to Visit Israel Next Week to Reaffirm U.S. Support and Oppose Unilateral Palestinian Recognition

The trip follows a Qatar strike that strained regional ties.

The trip to Israel will be Marco Rubio’s second since taking office in January.

Overview

  • The State Department said Rubio will travel September 13–18, visiting Israel before continuing on to the United Kingdom.
  • In meetings with Israeli leaders, he will discuss operational objectives tied to the Gaza campaign, including plans focused on Gaza City and Operation Gideon’s Chariots II.
  • Rubio will stress that Hamas must not return to governing Gaza and will meet families of hostages to underscore U.S. priority on securing their release.
  • He will press against unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state and against actions at the ICC and ICJ that Washington describes as anti‑Israel lawfare.
  • The visit proceeds days after Israel’s Doha strike drew Gulf condemnation and criticism from President Trump; Rubio is also expected to meet Qatar’s prime minister in Washington and to visit the City of David site in East Jerusalem.
