Overview

  • In his first public remarks since Brandon Hyde’s mid-May dismissal, Rubenstein addressed the club’s direction from the National Press Club.
  • He said the Orioles top MLB in injuries with 24 players placed on the injured list and four of six catchers sidelined, including Adley Rutschman.
  • Under interim manager Tony Mansolino, Baltimore has posted a 25-22 record since May 17 but still stands 40-50 and seven games from the last wild-card spot.
  • With the July 31 trade deadline approaching and only a 2.6 percent playoff probability, the Orioles must choose between selling expiring-contract players or betting on a late surge.
  • Rubenstein advocated for measures such as a salary cap to promote competitive balance and left on-field roster decisions to baseball professionals.
