RTS Link Reaches Key Milestone With First Driverless Train Unveiled

Delivered to the Singapore Rail Test Centre, it begins off-site trials in July to pave the way for December 2026 service.

Overview

  • The first of eight RTS Link driverless trains was unveiled on June 30 and transported to the Singapore Rail Test Centre in Tuas for off-site integration trials.
  • Project operators report that overall systems installation has reached 56% completion, with track laying and traction power works progressing on schedule.
  • Off-site testing at the SRTC will run from July through Q4 2025 before on-track trials on the 4 km viaduct between Woodlands North and Bukit Chagar stations through Q3 2026.
  • Each four-car train, built by CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive, features Grade of Automation 4 operation, seating for 32 per car, foldable seats for accessibility and a hearing induction loop system for passengers.
  • The remaining seven trains are being assembled at Batu Gajah ahead of final delivery by December, supporting the RTS Link’s 6 am to midnight schedule and 3.6-minute peak frequency.
