RTÉ Finance Chief Mari Hurley Resigns to Become CFO at I‑RES REIT

Her move triggers a spring handover, with the broadcaster opening a search for a new finance leader.

Overview

  • Irish Residential Properties REIT confirmed Hurley will join as chief financial officer, succeeding Brian Fagan at the country’s largest private residential landlord.
  • Hurley will remain at RTÉ until spring to support the transition, and the broadcaster says it will invite applications for the CFO post shortly.
  • Director General Kevin Bakhurst praised her advice and oversight, saying she helped put RTÉ on a more sustainable financial path and was meticulous with legacy issues.
  • Media Minister Patrick O’Donovan called her departure a big loss, credited her with unearthing financial issues, and said he will engage with RTÉ leadership during the handover.
  • Appointed in August 2024 after earlier governance scandals, Hurley flagged legacy problems including a €3.6m write‑down on a partly failed IT system reported to the Department of Arts and Media.
