The director general told a parliamentary committee the first round is delivering over €8 million in annual savings, with a follow-on scheme to be sought next year.

Overview

  • Around 30 resignations and retirements, alongside voluntary exits, brought the net headcount reduction to roughly 95 this year.
  • Management projects €6.2 million per year in savings from voluntary exits plus about €2.4 million per year from suppressed roles.
  • The broadcaster is targeting 400 departures over five years and reported a €5.3 million surplus for 2024, with a larger surplus expected for 2025.
  • Senior executives appeared before the Oireachtas Media Committee under pressure over disclosure as RTÉ explores outsourcing, with reports suggesting the Lotto draw and Fair City are under review.
