RSPCA Cymru Seeks Information After Seagull Killed on Barmouth Seafront

The charity has released a description of a man of interest and reminded the public that gulls are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

Overview

  • On August 4 at around 1 pm a seagull was kicked outside a chippy on Marine Parade after taking fish, struck a parked car and later died.
  • RSPCA animal rescue officer Julia Dalgleish confirmed an active investigation and urged anyone with first-hand information to call the charity’s appeals line with reference 01596699.
  • A man described as about 5 ft 10 in tall with curly hair, medium build and wearing a black jacket is being sought for questioning.
  • The charity emphasised that under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 it is illegal to cause suffering to gulls or to damage or destroy active nests.
  • This appeal follows other recent wildlife cruelty inquiries in Wales, including the discovery of around 30 dead pigeons in Newbridge in mid-July.
