Overview

• RSF fighters attacked Shaq al-Num and Um Garfa in mid-July, killing over 200 people in Shaq al-Num and at least 46 in Um Garfa according to local activists.
• Witnesses and local media report that militias looted homes, set villages ablaze and burned many residents alive inside their houses.
• The violence has driven more than 3,000 people from surrounding communities to flee, adding to a humanitarian disaster that has displaced over 12 million Sudanese.
• Under commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, the RSF has pushed beyond its Darfur bases to seize territory in North Kordofan in a bid to challenge the Sudanese Armed Forces.
